Hi All

Not happy, had the yearly check with British gas and they have condemed our boiler which they have shut off.
They did this Monday. They came around and quoted yesterday and its only gonna cost 4,477.00.

We are going to get a couple more quotes. as least we have an immersion so have hot water.

Not what we really need at this time of year.

That's terrible. Both the cost and lack of heat.ThumbDown Moral of the tale must be to only check boilers in the summer!!

Hi Anne,

That's awful news for you, why don't you look around and get a few quotes then get it fitted and get British Gas to maintain it. We have a 3 contract with them which has always served us well. Mind you when we put in a Bosch boiler 5 years ago it burst 8 months after fitting and destroyed 5 rooms of my house 2 weeks before Xmas. It was a nightmare, I could not believe what was happening. So choose carefully.

Thinking about you Lorna x Smile

Hi Anne

That's bad news at the start of the year Sad Do get several quotes particularly local tradesmen who can be very competitive and don't have the overheads of British Gas. My brother is a central heating engineer and gets a lot of work from people who have shared your unfortunate experience. Make sure you choose a Corgi registered engineer as they are required to fulfil certain training programmes to keep their skills up to date.

Good luck in finding someone suitable and not too expensive!

Hi Anne,

What a dreadful thing to happen at this time of year!
Do get other quotes though. We got a local plumber to power flush our boiler and radiators and it cost only a third of what BG quoted.
Good luck with it and hope you can manage to keep warm!

Hi All

All sorted. The man who came today was highly recommended by a friend, he took it to pieces cleaned it out thoroughly which I have never seen british gas do, did all the tests and its working perfectly.

I honestly think these people employed by british gas and who come to do the 3 star service are probably given commission if their salesmen get a sale out of it. We phoned British gas and asked for another employee to come out for a second opinion and they refused.

He was corgi registered.

So now lovely and warm.

Hi Anne

I am so pleased to hear the news, and glad all is back to normal. You must be livid, by the service of British Gas, it is hard to believe that they wanted to charge you nearly £4500.00 when it was basically a good service of the boiler. These stories never cease to amaze me.

Keep warm, Julia x

Hi Anne,

You are exactly right about British Gas. That is why the employees went on strike recently, because it's all about making sales and meeting targets, they don't care about the customer.
We used to have a service contract with them and every year it was the same........."new regulations" meant we had to pay out for more ventilation or some other work to be done. In the end we had enough and changed to npower who we are very satisfied with and now each annual service doesn't mean more expense!
I'm so glad you have your heating back on.

Love, Doreen xx
